Europe is considerably warmed by the Gulf Stream. Some areas north of the Arctic Circle have stately tree growth. This landscape of Norway Spruce, Silver Birch and Mountain Ash is typical of the Tromso area.

Scots Pine in one of its southwesternmost populations, Segovia Highlands, Spain. In February 1969, a similar forest in this area was used to film the "Battle of the Bulge" sequence in Patton.
